*Update* Various sources such as IGN and Kotaku are now reporting that Ace Attorney 5 will see a western release!
It’s been almost 9 months since Capcom announced that Gyakuten Saiban 5 (or more commonly known in the west as Ace Attorney) was in the works, but with no real details, or even what platform the game was going to be on. Well step aside Apollo Justice, hobo Phoenix Wright is coming back! Well, except he’s not a hobo anymore.
The game is set to be released Nintendo 3DS, from the looks of these latest Famitsu images.
Once again, the main character looks to be Phoenix Wright, and he’ll have a new sidekick from the looks of it. The court scenes also look like the they are now in fully rendered as opposed to a still shot of the old games.
The Verge also translated some of the info from the article, which includes an interview with story director Takeshi Yamazaki. Here are some excerpts.
On Phoenix and the setting for the game:
The Phoenix you saw in (Apollo Justice) was 33 years old, and this game takes place a year afterward — he’s back as a lawyer, and he brings a much more mature facade to his work. His design in the game tries to reflect this growth; he’s got a vest on, he’s unbuttoned his jacket, and overall he looks like he’s a lot more comfortable up there.
On the first case:
Phoenix’s first case in the new Ace Attorney involves defending a sweet-looking little girl against accusations she set off a bomb that destroyed the courtroom where previous games have taken place. His first opposing prosecutor, the younger brother of Winston Payne: the punching bag that players have fought (and usually beaten soundly) in the first chapter of previous titles.

Apparently the game will also be playable at this year’s TGS, which is set in a few weeks.
I’d hate to say it…but I WOULD buy a 3DS for this game. Now that IGN and Kotaku are reporting the game will be localized in the West, I guess it’s time to go get a 3DS!
